Our vision is to make a lasting contribution in remote Aboriginal communities to tackle the problems associated with preventable and chronic disease caused by poor nutrition.
Together we are strong
Working in partnership with remote Aboriginal communities and schools, we grow sustainable fruit and vegetable gardens and then operate them as a training ground to develop skills in gardening, cooking, nutrition and health. The program is called EON Thriving Communities.
EON works alongside schools and communities for between three and five years to grow the skills to establish and maintain food gardens, integrating the produce into school lunches as well as meals at home that fit into the community’s unique way of life.
We then negotiate an exit plan to ensure sustainability and make sure the community continues to receive mentoring and advice as needed.
EON’s highly successful Thriving Communities program operates strictly by invitation only from Indigenous communities to ensure commitment and solid take-up of the program. Currently the program has been adopted by more than 24 communities across the Kimberley and Pilbara regions of Western Australia with a further 21 communities in WA and the Northern Territory on the waiting list.
With the end of the financial year fast approaching we are calling on friends and supporters to join us and be part of a movement focused on reducing disadvantage among Aboriginal people.
Please help us grow.
