- Lombardi (Kindergarten and Pre-primary) made individual herb & spinach quiches with salad,
- Wawanyi (Yrs 1 to Yr 3) served up san choy bow with a fresh green bean salad (demonstrating extraordinary chopping skills!),
- Marrinyi (Yrs 4-6) produced a delicious gozleme with tzatziki and tomato & bocconcini salad and;
- Galamooda (Yrs 7-10) wowed the judges with their Thai green chicken curry with a pawpaw and apple slaw and roti (using 11 different types of fresh produce from the garden!)
The judging panel, while being lucky enough to taste everything on offer, had a really tough job in coming to a decision. Points were awarded for the amount of garden produce used, the creativity shown in adapting recipes to suit what was available to harvest – and of course for presentation and taste. After much deliberation the winner was finally announced….and GALAMOODA were declared the MasterChefs of the day!
In his judging summary Anthony said that tasting all the amazing healthy food was “like sitting in a veggie heaven”.
The kids of Yiyili learnt their passion for growing and cooking their own food under EON’s five-year Thriving Communities program, and have continued to develop their edible garden and healthy eating knowledge and skills through the EON extension program currently operating in community. This is the fourth year that the Red Dirt MasterChef has been held – and it has proved to be a wonderful way to showcase the continual growth in the students knowledge, skills and confidence. We are SO PROUD OF THEM!
