WHY DONATE TO EON

For 20 years, EON Aboriginal Foundation has been working alongside remote Aboriginal communities to tackle one of the biggest barriers to good health – poor nutrition.

Through our Thriving Communities Program, we provide a source of locally grown fresh produce together with hands-on nutrition education in schools and communities to improve health and wellbeing.

These gardens are more than food sources. They are outdoor classrooms, meeting places and spaces of pride where children and families learn to grow, prepare and enjoy nutritious meals every day.

Currently active in 25 communities, your support helps us expand this vital work to the 40+ communities still on our waiting list, giving even more children and families the tools to build healthier futures.

20 YEARS OF IMPACT

Every garden, every lesson, every meal makes a difference. Here’s what we’re seeing:

45+ schools and communities now part of the Thriving Communities Program across WA and NT.

Thousands of children and adults learning to grow, cook and enjoy healthy food every week.

Dramatic shifts in diet, with more fresh produce included in daily meals.

Improved student health including faster recovery from illness, fewer infections, more energy and focus at school.

Local jobs created at EON projects and within the community.

Data showing reduced type 2 diabetes prevalence in communities where EON works.

WHY GOOD NUTRITION MATTERS

Preventable diseases like type 2 diabetes, kidney disease and heart disease are devastating remote Aboriginal communities. Many children grow up thinking these conditions are simply inevitable. But it doesn’t have to be.

Good nutrition is the foundation for everything – health, learning, opportunity. Without it, children struggle to concentrate at school, get sick more often and miss out on the chance to reach their potential. With it, kids thrive – stronger bodies, sharper minds and brighter futures.

CHANGE IN ACTION

We’re making a difference in people’s daily lives thanks to our generous donors.

“You can visually see an impact on people’s health.”

EON Project Manager

“The students have definitely grown in their knowledge and even excitement just around food and where it’s come from, around healthy eating, and being able to discuss healthy choices – from preschool all the way up to our senior years.”

Principal

“It has been very important for the children. Now they are able to relate vegetables to being healthy. They are more open to trying what they don’t know. We don’t have a market here – so now they can see different vegetables in their garden and I hope that when they go shopping with their parents they can identify the vegetables and fruits and say, ‘I have grown this at school, we can eat this’.”

Local Teacher

“The evidence is strong that there has been a demonstrable improvement in the horticultural and healthy eating knowledge and skills of children. Engagement levels with children are strong across all year levels and this is recognised to have had an impact on knowledge and skills transfer. Through the provision of one-on-one support to participants with home gardens, EON has also contributed to a progressive strengthening of the horticultural knowledge and skills of interested adults and women participating in Healthy Eating workshops have reported positive learning outcomes.”

KPMG Eon Foundation Evaluation Report

“The program helps with attendance because children know when they come to school they will get a nutritious, healthy meal.”

EON Annual Report

“Communities report ‘major improvements in the health of our students’.”

EON Annual Report

“[My favourite memory from EON class is] planting the leaves and seeing them grow up.”

Kalkaringi Student

“We walk down to the gardens with our kids and pick food to add to our dinner.”

Frog Hollow Community Elder

“The EON program is changing things.”

Community Member

“Eon’s ability to bring people together – students, staff, parents and elders – makes it far more than just a school program; it is a true community asset.”

Yarralin School Principal
